The origin of Christmas
As is known to all, there are many memorable festivals and holidays all over the world. One of the most significant holidays is Christmas Day. It is on December 25th every year that Christians all over the world commemorate the birth of Jesus. It is a grand and national holiday in western countries, which is similar to the Chinese Spring Festival.
Christmas Day is related to Jesus’ birth. The Virgin Mary became pregnant by the Holy Spirit before she married Joseph. God sent an angel to appear in Joseph’s dream to tell him what to do. God commanded Joseph to marry Mary instead of abandoning her. The angel also told Joseph to name the baby Jesus. Jesus would help the needy and relieve the distressed. The Roman government ordered citizens to go to Bethlehem to register their residence before Mary was about to give birth to a child. Mary and Joseph had to obey the command. No sooner did they arrive in Bethlehem that it turned dark. Unfortunately, they didn’t find an accommodation and there was only a stable to stay in. It was in this stable that Jesus was born. Individuals, later, created Christmas Day to commemorate the birth of Jesus.
Although Christmas Day is a traditional western festival, it is also popular with young, Chinese people. Many young people spend a romantic time with their lovers on Christmas Eve, and everywhere is filled with the spirit of Christmas. Christmas is drawing near, and I wish you a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
